Blue Flag Dreams: Suryalanka's ₹98-Crore Coastal Makeover

Suryalanka Beach in Andhra Pradesh is set for a major transformation under a ₹98-crore redevelopment project approved by the Central government’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. The initiative aims to elevate the beach to international Blue Flag standards, focusing on cleanliness, safety, and environmental sustainability.

Part of the state’s Swarnandhra 2047 vision, the project will convert over 20 acres of government land into a modern tourism hub. Key features include eco-friendly budget resorts, changing rooms, landscaped entry zones, food courts, improved sanitation, and children’s play areas. The Andhra Pradesh Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APUFIDC) will oversee phased implementation.

The revamped beach will serve as the anchor for a broader coastal tourism circuit, linking Suryalanka to nearby eco-tourism spots such as the Poguru mangrove forest. The project also integrates solid waste management, renewable energy systems, and environmental awareness components. A public-private partnership (PPP) model will be explored to attract investment and create local jobs.

According to District Tourism Officer Nagireddy, the tender process is expected to begin by the end of June.
