ECMS: ₹23,000 Crore Boost for Indian Electronics

The government has received 70 applications under the Rs 23,000-crore Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), launched on May 1, 2025, to boost domestic production of key electronic components.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called the response “tremendous,” noting that 80% of the applications came from small and medium enterprises (SMEs). While company names were not officially disclosed, sources suggest that major players such as Tata Electronics, Dixon Technologies, and Foxconn have expressed interest.

The ECMS aims to close the widening demand-supply gap in India’s electronics sector, which is projected to reach USD 248 billion by 2030—compared to an anticipated demand of USD 500 billion, according to the Electronic Industries Association of India (Elcina).

Of the Rs 22,805 crore allocated under the scheme, Rs 21,093 crore will be directed toward sub-assemblies like camera modules, multi-layered printed circuit boards (PCBs), and passive components. The remaining Rs 1,712 crore is earmarked for parts and capital goods.

Products fall under two categories: Category A includes items like display and camera modules, while Category B covers components such as lithium-ion cells and IT hardware. Most projects will follow the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model, aligning with India’s goal of reducing its reliance on imported electronics.
