Flowing Forward: Jal Jeevan 2.0 Inks Key MoUs with WB and Andaman

Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 has entered into reform-linked memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the Government of West Bengal and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands as part of efforts to strengthen transparent and community-driven rural water supply systems across India.

The agreements were signed in the presence of Union Minister of Jal Shakti C. R. Patil, Minister of State V. Somanna, and senior officials from the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

Speaking at the event, Patil said the Jal Jeevan Mission has evolved into a people-centric national movement and highlighted that the Mission’s implementation timeline has been extended from May 2024 to December 2028 to achieve universal household tap water coverage across the country.

The Minister also commended the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration for achieving 100% rural tap water coverage and Har Ghar Jal certification across all blocks.

At the same time, he urged the West Bengal government to expedite implementation efforts in districts such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Purulia by undertaking immediate reviews and corrective measures to improve water infrastructure delivery and governance efficiency.
