“Engineering can no longer be taught in silos or clusters,” said Gurucharan Gollerkeri, Executive Director and Chief Strategy Officer at Gokula Education Foundation (Medical), as the group prepares to launch a new interdisciplinary higher education institution.
The foundation is set to establish the Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management (RISM), backed by an investment of ₹850 crore. The new institution will be built on a systems-oriented, interdisciplinary education framework aimed at integrating science, technology, and management disciplines under one academic structure.
As part of its global collaboration strategy, the group has entered into a partnership with the University at Albany, State University of New York, to support academic cooperation, curriculum development, and knowledge exchange for the upcoming institute.
Gollerkeri said the initiative represents a shift away from traditional, compartmentalised engineering education toward a more integrated and application-focused learning model. He added that the broader vision is to create a globally aligned STEM education ecosystem in India that better prepares students for cross-disciplinary challenges.
