The Maharashtra government has approved a comprehensive development plan for the Backbay Reclamation area, paving the way for the utilisation of previously unused reclaimed land.
The approved plan предусматривает the development of a dedicated marina for small boats and yachts, a new water transport terminal near the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), a helipad, and the extension of the new legislature building. It also includes the construction of a new police station and other essential municipal facilities. The project is scheduled to be implemented after one month, incorporating several modifications to the original proposal, such as the widening of Free Press Road and a change in land-use designation for a plot near Damani House.
In addition, a new road will be developed to improve connectivity between key parts of the city, supporting enhanced tourism and urban infrastructure. According to senior officials, the plan aims to accelerate Mumbai’s development while integrating modern amenities—such as the proposed marina—to strengthen the city’s appeal as a global tourism destination.
