Himachal Pradesh Guarantees Tourism Project Approvals in 30 Days

The Himachal Pradesh government is set to boost tourism by ensuring swift approvals for new hotels, wellness centres, and hospital projects within 30 days. This initiative aims to attract private investment, particularly in wellness and eco-tourism, to generate employment and offset revenue losses from struggling industries.

Previously, Section 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act, 1972, posed challenges by restricting non-agriculturists from owning land. However, the state government has now eased this regulation for tourism projects, enabling quicker approvals.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized, "We will promote wellness, religious, and health tourism. My promise to private players is – come invest in Himachal Pradesh, and we guarantee all clearances within 30 days." To streamline the process, the newly established Tourism Investment Promotion Board, led by the Chief Minister, will oversee a single-window clearance system.

Additionally, the government plans to establish four premier wellness centres utilizing natural resources such as spring water and organic local produce. A Spice Park will be developed in Hamirpur, and tea estates will be transformed into eco-tourism hubs to attract more visitors.
