Kerala's IT Exports Eye ₹1 Lakh Crore as Zoho Opens New R&D Hub

On July 2, 2025, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated Zoho Corporation’s new Research and Development (R&D) centre at Neduvathoor, Kottarakara in Kollam district. During the event, the Chief Minister announced that exports from Kerala’s Information Technology (IT) sector are poised to reach ₹1 lakh crore, crediting the state's supportive ecosystem for this remarkable growth.

Highlighting Kerala’s appeal as an investment destination, the CM noted the state's robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and strong connectivity — with the Vizhinjam seaport playing a pivotal role. Kerala currently hosts around 6,400 startups, which have collectively attracted investments exceeding ₹6,000 crore.

Zoho's 3.5-acre facility is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand into Tier-II towns and harness local talent. The new R&D centre will initially onboard 250 young professionals, providing training in cutting-edge technologies.

The inauguration was attended by Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal, MP Kodikunnil Suresh, senior Zoho officials, and former ISRO Chairperson S. Somanath. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to transforming Kerala into a global IT hub through innovation-driven growth, advanced tech training, and decentralized development.
