Mission Nirmal: BUIDCO’s Dual Pumping Power Under Namami Gange.

The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, under the Namami Gange Programme, has developed two sewerage pumping stations (SPS) in Patna to tackle chronic waterlogging and improve sewage management in the city.

The pumping stations are located near Atal Path and Pani Tanki on Boring Road, with a combined capacity of 207 million litres per day (MLD). The infrastructure is designed to reduce pressure on flood-prone localities such as Rajiv Nagar, Boring Road, SK Puri, Pani Tanki, and surrounding areas during the monsoon season.

SPS (A) serves Rajiv Nagar and Ward 5 with a capacity of 104 MLD, while SPS (B) caters to Ward 6, Ward 7, Ward 21, Anandpuri, SK Puri, and adjoining zones with 103 MLD capacity. The system is designed to divert sewage from overloaded drains, preventing backflow and reducing urban flooding.

As part of the broader plan, major drains are being linked to the Digha Sewage Treatment Plant, increasing treatment capacity from 40 MLD to 70 MLD. Instead of constructing new drainage networks, the project focuses on intercepting existing sewage flows and redirecting them to pumping stations, which then transport wastewater to the treatment facility.

Once fully operational, the initiative is expected to significantly enhance Patna’s drainage efficiency and wastewater treatment capacity.
