Nashik is planning to develop a 13.95-km dedicated riverfront corridor for pedestrians and cyclists along the Godavari river as part of the draft Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) prepared by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro).
The proposed non-motorised transport (NMT) corridor, estimated at around ₹28 crore, will be implemented in three phases to promote walking and cycling while enhancing access to the riverfront. The first phase covers a 4.95-km stretch from Chandwadkar Road to Tapovan at an estimated cost of ₹9.9 crore, followed by a 3.4-km section between Anandvalli and Chandwadkar Road worth ₹6.8 crore. The final phase will develop the remaining 5.6 km between Gangapur village and Anandvalli, and Tapovan and Jail Road, with an investment of ₹11.2 crore.
The riverfront project forms part of a broader mobility strategy under the CMP, which proposes around 131 km of pedestrian infrastructure and 88 km of dedicated cycling tracks across Nashik to improve last-mile connectivity and encourage sustainable transport. The plan also includes junction upgrades, Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS), Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), road safety measures, freight management initiatives, truck terminals and a comprehensive parking management policy.
The proposed corridor is expected to enhance pedestrian access to the Godavari riverfront while supporting greener urban mobility and strengthening transport infrastructure ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027.
