NTH Steps In: New Footwear Testing Lab Launched in Ghaziabad

National Test House (NTH), Northern Region, has established a dedicated shoe testing laboratory in Ghaziabad to strengthen quality assurance standards for India’s rapidly growing footwear industry.

The facility has been strategically set up near major footwear manufacturing hubs such as Delhi-NCR, Kanpur, and Agra, enabling faster sample testing, lower logistics costs, and improved accessibility for manufacturers and exporters across northern India.

Equipped with advanced testing instruments and modern infrastructure, the upgraded laboratory will provide high-precision footwear testing services to MSMEs, manufacturers, exporters, consumers, and regulatory bodies. According to the Ministry, the facility will support testing and evaluation of a broad range of footwear products as per Indian Standards (IS), including industrial and safety shoes, leather footwear, school shoes, PVC footwear, sandals, chappals, and sports shoes.

The laboratory will also be capable of assessing key quality parameters such as slip resistance, durability, material strength, and the presence of harmful chemicals or dyes in footwear products.

The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s manufacturing competitiveness and improve consumer confidence by ensuring safer, more durable, and higher-quality footwear products for both domestic and international markets.
