Nitesh Rane has directed officials to undertake a detailed feasibility study for the proposed Skyla Aquarium and Sea Lion Entertainment Centre in Panvel.
The minister emphasised that the project should be developed to international standards in order to attract both domestic and international tourists. The directive was issued during a high-level meeting at Mantralaya following a representation by Vikrant Patil.
The proposed 10-acre project is planned at the fisheries sub-centre operated by Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth and is strategically located near an estuary suited for the conservation and display of marine and freshwater ecosystems. Minister Rane highlighted the importance of detailed technical, environmental, and financial evaluations before implementation, noting that a world-class facility could significantly enhance tourism and educational outreach in the region.
The proposed centre is expected to include a range of aquatic exhibits and entertainment attractions, including sea lion shows, aimed at improving visitor engagement and recreational appeal.
Officials said the feasibility study will help determine funding requirements, regulatory approvals, and project execution timelines. If implemented, the project is expected to strengthen eco-tourism, create employment opportunities, and generate new economic activity in the Panvel region while positioning it as a major hub for marine education and recreation.
