The Assam Cabinet has approved the allotment of a 900 MW off-stream pumped storage project (PSP) site in West Karbi Anglong district to Hinduja Renewables Energy. With an estimated investment of Rs 5,400 crore, this project is a significant step toward Assam’s goal of achieving 2 GW of PSP capacity by 2030. The initiative aims to enhance grid stability and energy security by storing surplus energy during off-peak hours and supplying it during peak demand.
In a parallel move to boost sustainable development and entrepreneurship, the Cabinet also sanctioned the creation of a Rs 3,000 crore Assam Industrial and Green Growth Fund—a SEBI-registered Alternate Investment Fund (AIF). The state will contribute an anchor investment of Rs 500 crore in phases, with the fund targeting sectors such as renewable energy, green infrastructure, agri-tech, tourism, MSMEs, and startups.
Additional key approvals include:
The launch of the ‘Shradhanjali’ scheme, which will provide dignified transportation of the mortal remains of Assamese youth who pass away in other states.
The notification of Urpad Beel (1,256 ha) and Hasila Beel (245 ha) in Goalpara district as Proposed Reserve Forests (PRFs) under the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891, to safeguard ecologically sensitive wetlands.
