Madhya Pradesh Waters its Future 838 Crores for Irrigation Breakthrough

The Water Resources Department, Madhya Pradesh, is set to embark on a groundbreaking endeavor, the Irrigation Unit Project, at Suthaliya, Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, with a significant investment of  838.59 Crores. This ambitious project focuses on constructing a major dam on the Sindh River to create a substantial gross storage capacity of 201.35 Million Cubic Meters (MCM) and a live storage capacity of 183.70 MCM.

The primary objectives of this initiative are multifaceted, aiming to revolutionize agricultural productivity by providing irrigation water to over 1 lakh hectares of land, mitigating drought, generating hydroelectricity, and promoting pisciculture and recreational activities. The project involves the development of a comprehensive canal network, installation of pump houses and pipelines, and construction of powerhouses to facilitate these diverse objectives.

The project is anticipated to significantly impact the region by enhancing agricultural yields, improving water security, creating employment opportunities, and fostering sustainable water management practices. Funded jointly by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and the Central Government of India, the project holds promise in not only elevating the economic and social fabric of the area but also in promoting a balanced and sustainable environment.

This venture stands as a testament to Madhya Pradesh's commitment to addressing water scarcity issues, enhancing agricultural growth, and harnessing renewable energy sources while fostering socio-economic development and environmental sustainability in the region.

As on January, 2024. Project building has begun. 40% of the project is done. The project will finish in March 2025.
