Punjab's Water Revolution: Rs 315 Cr Investment

In a significant move to enhance access to safe drinking water in rural Punjab, the state government is set to roll out two major water supply projects worth Rs 315 crore.

Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian announced that the first project, already approved, involves upgrading and expanding 144 rural water supply schemes across 22 districts. With a budget of Rs 159.95 crore, this initiative will deliver clean drinking water to 176 villages, benefiting approximately 3.05 lakh residents.

The second project, currently under proposal for the 2025–26 fiscal year, plans to improve an additional 125 water supply schemes in 21 districts. With an estimated cost of Rs 153.22 crore, it aims to reach 175 more villages and serve about 3.2 lakh people.

These projects are part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to develop sustainable and resilient infrastructure in rural areas. Beyond expanding access to potable water, the initiatives aim to strengthen long-term water security, public health, and overall quality of life in the state’s villages.
