The Tirunelveli Corporation aims to complete 80% of its third-phase underground drainage (UGD) project in the Palayamkottai and Melapalayam zones by December 31, according to Superintending Engineer Kannan.
Responding to Palayamkottai Zone Chairman M. Francis, he stated that 44% of the work has been completed, with progress at approximately 1.3 km per day. Road restoration is being carried out promptly after pipe-laying. “We are confident of achieving 80% completion by year-end,” he said, adding that 8 to 9 drainage blockages are being cleared daily.
Regarding the Ariyanayagipuram Drinking Water Scheme, the TWAD Board has provided over 24,000 of the planned 33,000 household water connections.
Over the past five years, the Corporation has executed 1,763 roadworks, covering 326 km at a cost of ₹173 crore. Mayor G. Ramakrishnan also announced measures to compact garbage effectively to prevent fire hazards.
