DVC and Six Private Companies Win Big in Commercial Coal Auction

The state-run Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), along with six private companies, has successfully secured seven coal blocks in the 12th round of commercial coal auctions, the Ministry of Coal announced on Friday.

Launched on March 27, 2025, and concluded between July 28 and July 31, the auction saw all seven blocks awarded. Of these, three are fully explored, while the remaining four are partially explored, according to the ministry.

DVC emerged as a key winner in this round, with the blocks allocated for commercial mining purposes. The auction is part of the government’s broader strategy to boost domestic coal production and curb reliance on imports.
