Ahmedabad’s ambitious underground tunnel project connecting the Sabarmati Riverfront, the airport, and the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave has taken a major step forward, receiving preliminary approval from the state Urban Development Department for the Hansol TP Scheme No. 67 alignment.
Delayed for three years largely due to pending defense clearances, the proposed route is strategically planned to run safely beneath the Army Cantonment firing range to prevent any disruption to restricted military operations. This vital infrastructure corridor has gained urgency as the city prepares for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
While this preliminary Town Planning approval enables the AMC and SRFDCL to kick off design finalization and technical studies, actual construction remains contingent upon securing the final Army NOC, technical clearances, funding arrangements, and the appointment of an executing agency.
