Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) plans to expand its city gas distribution network by setting up 85 new compressed natural gas (CNG) stations over the next two years, according to Rakesh Kumar Jain, Director (Finance).
He said the company is targeting a gas transmission volume of 134–135 million standard cubic metres per day (MSCMD) by FY 2027, while transmission for the current financial year is expected to reach 124–125 MSCMD. GAIL also aims to increase its gas sourcing capacity by six to seven million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2030, up from the current level of 17 MTPA. In addition, the company has projected capital expenditure of ₹9,000–10,000 crore in the next financial year, excluding investments in new projects.
Highlighting favourable market conditions, Jain noted that several new capacities are coming on stream, helping to reduce gas prices and potentially drive higher gas consumption across India.
