The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has set a deadline to complete excavation work on 19 priority roads by the end of February 2026, as part of preparations for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2027.
These roads have been prioritised for upgradation, and civic body commissioner Manisha Khatri has instructed all relevant departments, utility agencies, and the Smart City Corporation to fast-track underground infrastructure work. This includes the laying of water pipelines, sewer lines, electrical cables, and piped natural gas (PNG) networks. The work on these 19 roads forms part of a larger ₹1,270 crore project to upgrade 29 major roads across the city, which is scheduled to commence in March 2026.
The identified roads will play a crucial role in traffic management during the Kumbh Mela, serving as key links between major highways and acting as primary corridors for pilgrims. The NMC aims to prevent repeated excavation after road construction begins and ensure all essential infrastructure is in place well before the festival’s peak period.
