IGL Fuels Up the Future with 19 Biogas Plants

Indraprastha Gas (IGL) has unveiled ambitious plans to establish 19 compressed biogas (CBG) plants, strategically integrating them with its extensive city gas distribution network. In a significant move, IGL has initiated preliminary agreements with two leading technology partners to set up these plants across key regions including Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

These advanced facilities will be dedicated to the production of CBG, which will seamlessly integrate into IGL's city gas distribution network. By leveraging this partnership, the company aims to generate approximately 0.45 million metric standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) of biogas sourced from waste materials, a quantity roughly equivalent to five percent of IGL's daily gas requirements.

The deployment of these biogas projects holds dual benefits, addressing municipal waste disposal challenges while providing a sustainable solution for farmers to manage agricultural waste effectively. Moreover, blending CBG with natural gas will not only contribute to environmental preservation but also offer economic advantages by reducing overall supply costs for city gas distributors.
