India's Gas Future: GAIL Inks Major LNG Agreement with Vitol Asia

State-run GAIL (India) Ltd. has signed a long-term LNG sales and purchase agreement with Vitol Asia for the annual supply of approximately 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas over a 10-year period, beginning in 2026.

The agreement aligns with GAIL’s broader strategy to expand its LNG portfolio as India moves toward a gas-based energy economy. Under the deal, Vitol will supply LNG from its diversified global portfolio, enhancing GAIL’s ability to meet growing domestic demand.

"GAIL is expanding its long-term LNG portfolio to meet demand growth. We are pleased to partner with Vitol Asia Pte. Ltd. This agreement marks a key milestone in strengthening GAIL’s capability to serve its evolving customer base reliably,” said Sanjay Kumar, Director (Marketing), GAIL.

In a separate development, GAIL has extended its existing gas sale and purchase agreement with Oil India Ltd. by 15 years, effective from 1 July 2025. Under the renewed pact, Oil India will supply up to 900,000 standard cubic meters per day (SCMD) of natural gas from its Bakhri Tibba block in Rajasthan.
