MECL and NLCIL Double Down on Lignite Exploration

Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) and NLC India Limited (NLCIL) reaffirmed their enduring partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 7, 2025, to enhance joint efforts in lignite exploration and geological studies across India.

This strategic agreement underscores a shared commitment to strengthening the nation’s energy security and fostering economic growth through the responsible and sustainable utilisation of lignite resources. The MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior officials and dignitaries from both organisations.

Rooted in a common vision, this collaboration between two key public sector undertakings aims to unlock India’s lignite potential through comprehensive geological assessments and scientific exploration. The renewed partnership supports national goals of energy self-reliance, mineral resource optimisation, and aligns with the Government’s focus on sustainable mining and infrastructure-led development.
