NMDC Hits 4 Million Tonne Iron Ore Milestone

Public sector mining major NMDC recorded a 15% year-on-year increase in iron ore production for April 2025, reaching 4 million tonnes, up from 3.48 million tonnes in April 2024. Iron ore sales also rose 3% to 3.63 million tonnes compared to 3.53 million tonnes last year.

The company continues to scale up production to meet rising domestic demand and align with national mineral output goals. NMDC Steel (NSL), its demerged steel arm, reported robust growth as well—hot metal output in April reached 2,30,111 tonnes, up 8.5% month-on-month from March.

For FY25, NMDC achieved record cumulative production of 44.04 million tonnes and sales of 44.4 million tonnes, including its best-ever Q4 sales of 12.66 million tonnes. CMD Amitava Mukherjee highlighted strong dispatch growth from key mines—Kirandul (12%), Bacheli (4%), and Donimalai (88%)—as a solid step toward NMDC’s goal of becoming a 100 million tonne mining company by 2030.
