Powering the Future: NTPC’s New 400 MWh Storage Milestone

NTPC has officially commenced its 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Barh, Bihar, with the laying of the foundation stone. This strategic initiative is engineered to fortify grid stability and reliability by balancing supply and demand fluctuations—storing excess power during off-peak hours and deploying it during periods of high demand.

By facilitating a more flexible power network, the BESS project will play a vital role in integrating a higher share of renewable energy into the grid. Following the ceremony, NTPC’s Director (Operations) inspected the Stage-I Control Room and conducted a comprehensive review meeting at the Administrative Building to evaluate the project's timeline alongside other ongoing developments at the facility. This endeavor underscores NTPC’s dedication to clean energy innovation and its contribution to India’s long-term energy security.
