SJVN Green Energy has officially entered into a Power Usage Agreement (PUA) with Uttarakhand Power Corporation (UPCL) for the supply of 200 MW of solar power. This renewable energy will be harnessed from the ongoing 1,000 MW Bikaner project situated in Rajasthan. Notably, the Bikaner project is being undertaken by SJVN, facilitated by SGEL, in Rajasthan, following the guidelines of the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) scheme initiated by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).
The comprehensive development cost for this project currently stands at Rs 5,491 crore. Constructed under the domestic content requirement mode, the project is anticipated to be operational by April 2024. The generated solar power will be utilized by various government entities, either directly or through distribution companies (discoms). The foundation stone for the Bikaner solar power project was laid by President Droupadi Murmu in January 2023.
Forecasts for the initial operational year suggest that the project will produce 2,455 million units of power, accumulating a substantial total of approximately 56,838 million units over a span of 25 years. Furthermore, the environmental impact of the project is noteworthy, with an estimated reduction of 27,85,077 tonnes of carbon emissions over the same period. This initiative marks a significant stride towards sustainable and eco-friendly energy practices in the region.
