Veena George stated that the state government has made substantial investments to ensure free and accessible healthcare for the public.
Speaking during the virtual inauguration of the new mother and child super specialty block at Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure. The newly built 850-bed facility, constructed at a cost of ₹285.31 crore, is designed to deliver advanced care for pregnant women and children.
The inauguration also marked the launch of an Indian Council of Medical Research-funded microbiology laboratory equipped for Level 2 virology testing, 12 pay wards, a modern cosmetology clinic established in collaboration with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and a multi-level parking facility.
Highlighting broader progress in the public health sector, the Minister pointed to the availability of specialised services in government hospitals, including bone marrow transplantation, advanced cancer therapies, liver transplants, and free treatment for rare diseases in children under five. She emphasised that these initiatives reflect the government’s sustained focus on enhancing healthcare delivery and expanding access to quality medical services.
