The New and Renewable Energy Department of Madhya Pradesh is set to enhance the Morena Solar Project's energy storage capacity from the current four hours to a full 24 hours, in phased increments of six, eight, and 10 hours.
The project recently achieved a record-low tariff of ₹2.70 per unit. Once full-day storage is in place, the state plans to supply stored solar energy to power-deficit states, boosting regional energy security.
In support of these efforts, the University of California, Berkeley, has established a centre in Bhopal to collaborate with the state on solar initiatives. Additional solar projects are also planned in the Dhar and Shivpuri districts.
To further strengthen clean energy generation, a pumped storage hydropower project is underway in Neemuch. This system will pump water to a hilltop reservoir during the day and release it at night, enabling round-the-clock renewable power supply.
