Korba West: ₹12,640 Cr. Deal Sealed for New Thermal Power

Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) has sanctioned a Rupee term loan of ₹12,640 crore to Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) for the development of a 2x660 MW supercritical thermal power project at the Hasdeo Thermal Power Station (HTPS), Korba West.

The loan agreement was signed on 26 September 2025 in Raipur by senior officials from both organizations. The funding will provide CSPGCL—a wholly-owned state utility with an installed capacity exceeding 2,600 MW—with low-cost, long-term financial support to ensure the timely execution of the project.

This strategic collaboration is expected to significantly boost power availability in the region and support infrastructure linked to Indian Railways. It also reflects IRFC’s broader vision to diversify into infrastructure sectors with strong forward and backward linkages to railway operations, in alignment with India’s national energy and infrastructure goals.
