THDCIL Fully Commissions 1,320 MW Khurja Power Plant

THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) has commenced commercial operation of the second 660 MW unit of its 2x660 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh, marking the full commissioning of the 1,320 MW plant.

The commissioning was virtually inaugurated by Union Minister Manohar Lal, with participation from senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh government. The plant’s first unit was declared commercially operational on 26 January 2025, followed by the second unit on 22 September 2025. The project was executed efficiently across 14 specialised engineering and construction packages.

Featuring ultra-supercritical technology and equipped with advanced environmental safeguards, the plant sources captive coal from the Amelia mine. It is projected to generate 9,264 million units (MU) of electricity annually, significantly strengthening power availability and grid reliability in the region.

Developed by THDCIL, a subsidiary of NTPC, the project forms part of India’s broader strategy to expand high-efficiency thermal power infrastructure, while maintaining environmental compliance and operational excellence.
