The Karnataka government has instructed the creation of a power evacuation plan for the 2,000 MW Sharavati Pumped Storage project, aimed at establishing the necessary infrastructure to transmit the generated power to a load centre via the grid.
Officials have confirmed that the project will adhere to the guidelines set by the Forest Department and the Wildlife Board, prioritizing practical implementation. The Sharavati Pumped Storage project, along with a 2,000 MW solar park planned in Tumakuru district, will be developed under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) model. Private investors will submit bids according to the tariff structure set by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission, with REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) overseeing the bidding process.
The government guarantees a transparent process, with completion expected within six months, although opposition from conservationists remains ongoing.
