L&T and ITOCHU Partner for Green Ammonia in India

L&T Energy Greentech, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, has signed a joint development agreement (JDA) with Japan’s ITOCHU Corporation to establish a 300 KTPA green ammonia facility in Kandla, Gujarat.

As part of the agreement, both companies will jointly develop and commercialise the project, with ITOCHU set to offtake the green ammonia for bunkering applications in Singapore. The partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions in the maritime sector.

L&T had previously secured a large land parcel in Kandla to support its green hydrogen and ammonia ambitions.

Hiroyuki Tsubai, Executive Vice President and President of ITOCHU’s Machinery Company, said the collaboration will strengthen efforts to introduce low-carbon ammonia as a zero-emission fuel alternative for the maritime industry. He noted that Kandla would serve as the primary production hub for ITOCHU’s Singapore bunkering operations.

L&T emphasized that the alliance aligns with its long-term vision of promoting sustainable practices and contributing to a cleaner, greener future.
