The Telangana government has announced an ambitious ₹12,000-crore road development initiative aimed at significantly improving connectivity across the state. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy stated that tenders for the first phase will be floated soon.
Under the plan, the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department will construct 5,190 km of roads at a cost of ₹6,478 crore, while the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department will develop 7,947 km of rural roads for ₹6,000 crore. All projects will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), which involves 40% government funding in 10 instalments, with the remaining investment by contractors, repaid based on project performance and adjusted for inflation.
The initiative aims to seamlessly connect villages to mandals, mandals to districts, and districts to Hyderabad through modern, all-weather infrastructure — including four-lane district roads, two-lane mandal links, and upgraded rural roads.
By December, tenders for an additional 6,810 km of roads will be released. The government highlights HAM’s advantages: reduced risk for investors, assured long-term maintenance (15 years), steady returns, and safer, pothole-free roads — all contributing to economic development and employment generation across Telangana.
