The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has granted an inter-state transmission licence to Mandsaur I RE Transmission, which has been renamed POWERGRID Mandsaur Augmentation Transmission.
Issued on 5 January 2026, the licence authorises the company—a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL)—to implement a key transmission infrastructure project at the Mandsaur substation. The project is designed to enhance transformation capacity and facilitate the evacuation of renewable energy to the national grid.
The scope of work includes advanced system upgrades such as the installation of 400 kV and 765 kV bus sections, inter-connecting transformers, and transmission line bays. These enhancements are critical for integrating large-scale solar, wind, and hybrid power projects being developed by companies including Waaree Renewables, NTPC Renewable Energy, and JSP Green.
The project will be developed under a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) model, with commercial operations expected to commence between March 2027 and March 2028. The transmission licence will remain valid for 25 years, subject to compliance with prescribed technical standards.
