Powering the Northeast: PGCIL's ₹209 Cr. Grid Expansion

Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has approved an investment of ₹209.38 crore for a critical interstate transmission project under the North-Eastern Region Expansion Scheme – XXIII (NERES-XXIII).

In a regulatory filing, the company stated that its Committee of Directors on Investment cleared the project, which was allocated by the Central Transmission Utility of India (CTUIL) on August 4, 2025, under the Regulated Tariff Mechanism. The scheme is scheduled for commissioning within 30 months of allocation.

Approved by the National Committee on Transmission in July 2025, NERES-XXIII is designed to meet an additional 100 MW of industrial power demand in Arunachal Pradesh and to supply electricity during the construction of new hydropower projects. The initiative will also strengthen grid reliability in a region currently dependent on a largely 132kV single-circuit network.

Key components of the project include:

Stringing of second circuits on three existing 132kV lines:  Pasighat–Roing (103 km), Roing–Tezu (73 km), Tezu–Namsai (95 km), Installation of six new AIS line bays across four substations

The project will play a vital role in enhancing power infrastructure and supporting economic growth in the North-Eastern region.
