Powering Up: India’s $500 Billion Green-Light for Investors

India’s power sector offers an investment potential of nearly half a trillion dollars (approximately ₹45 lakh crore) over the next seven years, according to Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal.

Speaking ahead of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, Secretary Agarwal highlighted the rapid expansion of the sector, noting that India’s electricity transmission network is set to soon surpass five lakh circuit kilometres (ckm), having already reached 4.97 lakh ckm. He underscored the significant investment opportunities across electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.

The Bharat Electricity Summit, scheduled to be held from 19 to 22 March 2026 in New Delhi, will convene global leaders and key stakeholders from the power sector to discuss emerging trends and opportunities. Secretary Agarwal also noted that India successfully met a peak electricity demand of 250 GW in 2024, reflecting the country’s strengthening energy infrastructure and its readiness to support future demand growth.
