THDC India Limited is establishing a new hydroelectric power plant on the Alaknanda River in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. The project aims to harness the hydropower potential of the river to generate clean and renewable energy. The plant will have an installed capacity of 444 MW and is expected to generate an annual average of 1,665 GWh of electricity. Total Project cost is 3,860.35 Crores.
Natural replenishment is possible with hydroelectric electricity. It is a sustainable alternative to limited fossil fuels. Hydropower plants provide dependable energy. They run continuously and are less prone to outages than conventional power plants. Hydropower facilities transform water energy into electricity efficiently. They can produce a lot of power from a little volume of water with 90% efficiency. Hydroelectric power stations are clean and pollution-free. They generate no greenhouse gases or pollutants and do not need fossil fuels.
As on November 2023, The project is now in the stage of construction being started. The completion of the project's work has reached the 30% mark. The work on the project will be finished by March of 2026.
