L&T has emerged as the lowest bidder for pedestrian tunnel in Bihar

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Secures L1 Bid for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) 1.5 km Pedestrian Tunnel Project Connecting Patna Museum and Bihar Museum

L&T has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) tender for Package PC-08R, involving the development of a 1.5 km pedestrian tunnel connecting Patna Museum and Bihar Museum. This ambitious project entails constructing a subway linking both museums, utilizing an eight-meter-diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM) at a depth of 16.5 meters.

The scope of work for L&T includes the design and construction of a single tunnel (SUBWAY) between the Bihar and Patna Museums using Shield TBM, along with fire escapes and ancillary buildings. The air-conditioned tunnel, planned to function as an art gallery, will also feature battery-operated golf carts for transport within.

The entry/exit structures on each end will include security checkpoints and service elevators (goods lift). Initially approved in May 2022 with an estimated cost of Rs 373 crore, this project witnessed subsequent developments. The Urban Development and Housing Department (UDHD), Government of Bihar, formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with DMRC in January 2023 for its implementation.

DMRC initially called for bids in February 2023, estimating the cost at Rs 296.41 crore and setting a completion deadline of 2.46 years. However, in August 2023, DMRC reissued bids for construction, revising the estimated cost to Rs 426.88 crore while maintaining the same completion deadline.
