The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Kolhapur–Vaibhavwadi railway line has been completed, marking a key milestone in enhancing regional connectivity, as announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The project is aimed at meeting growing transportation demand between Kolhapur and Vaibhavwadi. The DPR was prepared following extensive surveys covering land elevation, terrain, vegetation, and other potential constraints. Initially estimated at ₹3,244 crore in 2016, the project cost has risen to around ₹6,300 crore and is expected to reach approximately ₹6,500 crore by completion.
The project will be implemented through a 50:50 partnership between the Central and state governments. It will require the acquisition of about 638 hectares of land, with ₹1,200 crore earmarked for this purpose. The land acquisition process is expected to commence soon in coordination with the district administration.
Once completed, the railway line is expected to significantly improve connectivity and support economic development in the region.
