The Indian Railways has begun preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for 26 key infrastructure projects spanning 1,960 km across Andhra Pradesh, aiming to significantly enhance passenger and freight connectivity in the state.
The proposed initiatives include:
New railway lines, High-speed bullet train corridors, Additional lines on high-density routes, Bypasses and rail-over-rail bridges
Among the most notable developments are the Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Hyderabad–Chennai high-speed rail corridors, which will traverse 300 km and 464 km within Andhra Pradesh, respectively.
Additionally, new rail lines are being proposed for 11 previously unconnected routes, including:
Ongole–Donakonda, Dupadu–Betancharla, Machilipatnam–Narasapuram–Repalle
To address rising freight traffic, third and fourth lines are planned along major corridors such as:
Vijayawada–Chennai, Vijayawada–Hyderabad, Vijayawada–Visakhapatnam
Due to intense coal and mineral freight movement, fifth and sixth lines are also under consideration between Simhachalam North and Kothavalasa.
“The focus is on improving both passenger connectivity and freight movement in the state,” railway officials noted.
These projects are part of Indian Railways’ broader vision to modernize infrastructure and boost economic growth through enhanced regional connectivity.
