The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has initiated third rail electrification testing on the elevated stretch of the upcoming Pink Line, between Jayadeva and Tavarekere stations. This milestone marks the start of a comprehensive series of technical assessments required before the full 21.2-km corridor—linking Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara—becomes operational.
A BMRCL official stated that the next phases will include signal system validation, telecommunication trials, and load testing, which are expected to take approximately four months. Upon completion, safety inspection reports will be submitted to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for review and final approval for commercial operations.
The Pink Line is set to open in two phases:
A 7.5-km elevated section with six stations
A 13.76-km underground section with 12 stations
While civil work on the elevated portion is complete, underground construction is nearly 90% finished.
To support the line’s operations, BMRCL has partnered with BEML to procure 138 coaches, forming 23 six-car train sets. Each coach is priced at ₹9.99 crore, comprising ₹7.74 crore for manufacturing and ₹1.3 crore for 15 years of maintenance. The timely delivery of these coaches is essential to meet the projected mid-2026 launch.
