Dhami Pushes for Model Railway Hubs in Dehradun & Haridwar

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to request the development of Dehradun and Haridwar railway stations as model stations, with funding support from the Central government for their expansion and upgradation.

The Union Minister assured that the financial aspects of the Haridwar–Dehradun railway line doubling project would be reviewed before taking a final decision. CM Dhami also proposed the inclusion of Almora and Someshwar in the Tanakpur–Bageshwar rail alignment, suggesting provisions for a tunnel and road connectivity to enhance regional access.

Additionally, the Chief Minister requested the closure of the old Rishikesh railway station and transfer of the land to the state government, offering full cooperation in land acquisition to support operations at Yog Nagari railway station.

In a separate meeting with Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, CM Dhami sought clearance for seven hydroelectric projects with a combined capacity of 647 MW. He also requested the transfer of 12.317 hectares of forest land in Gaulapar, Haldwani, for the establishment of a sports university, aimed at promoting youth employment through sports development.
