Dharavi, one of Mumbai’s most densely populated neighborhoods, is on track to become a pivotal Metro interchange hub through the ambitious Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP). A second Metro station is planned as part of the upcoming Metro Line 11 (Wadala–CSMT), complementing the under-construction Metro Line 3 (Colaba–BKC–Aarey).
The westward extension of Line 11 from Wadala to Dharavi and Sion aims to dramatically improve both east-west and north-south connectivity across the city. Spearheaded by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL), the project includes the construction of a multi-level interchange station—Dharavi Central—positioning the area as a vital mobility hub.
With an estimated investment of ₹16,000 crore, the initiative promises faster, more efficient access from Mumbai’s eastern suburbs to key locations such as Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and the airport, while also easing road congestion.
To support seamless last-mile connectivity, the plan incorporates feeder bus services and infrastructure for non-motorised transport. Once completed, Dharavi will be transformed not only into a modern residential-commercial zone but also into a future-ready transportation nucleus for Mumbai.
