The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been tasked with drafting the detailed project report (DPR) for two new metro rail corridors in Madhya Pradesh: Indore to Ujjain and Indore to Pithampur. These corridors will cover a total length of 84 kilometers, aiming to enhance connectivity in the region.
DMRC's role will involve providing technical advice and overseeing the preparation of the DPR. The initial phase focuses on connecting the Shri Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain with the Nanakheda Bus Stand and Lavkush Chauraha in Indore, creating vital links for commuters and pilgrims alike.
The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited has sought DMRC's expertise to ensure the project's success. The metro rail initiative between Indore and Ujjain was initially proposed by the state government in anticipation of the Simhastha festival in 2028, a significant event that attracts millions of visitors to Ujjain every 12 years.
In related news, the first phase trial run of the metro rail in Bhopal was completed in October last year, with subsequent phases set to begin soon. Meanwhile, a 31-kilometer-long metro line is under construction in Indore, further boosting the region's urban infrastructure.
