India's First Underwater Metro Line in Kolkata to Open

The ongoing efforts to finalize the construction of the nation's inaugural underwater metro network, a pivotal segment of Kolkata Metro Rail's East-West corridor, are progressing at a rapid pace.

Anticipated for public launch in the coming month, the 4.8-km-long stretch from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade within the East-West Metro holds promise for commuters. Authorities have directed officials to orchestrate seamless passenger interchanges among the three railways, ensuring efficient transit.

Presently, the operational East-West corridor spans from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector-V. Upon the full opening of the corridor, three new stations-Howrah Maidan, Howrah station complex, and BBD Bagh (Mahakaran)-will augment the existing network.

In total, the stretch encompasses eight stations: Sealdah, Phoolbagan, Salt Lake Stadium, Bengal Chemical, City Centre, Central Park, Karunamoyee, and Salt Lake Sector-V. Notably, the Howrah Metro station will claim the title of India's deepest Metro station upon completion.
