The Future of Travel: Ranchi Station’s ₹447 Crore Transformation

The redevelopment of Ranchi Railway Station has entered its final phase, with key facilities scheduled to become operational in January 2026. The station’s South Gate is set to open to passengers, while platform number six will also begin operations as part of the transition to the upgraded infrastructure.

Construction work is progressing at a rapid pace, transforming the station into a modern, world-class facility. Passenger operations from the old station building will be gradually shifted to platform six. The newly built G+2 station building is nearing completion, with finishing works such as tile installation, false ceilings, and electrical fittings currently underway. Designed to offer airport-like amenities, the station will feature a large food plaza with seating capacity for approximately 2,500 passengers.

The ₹447 crore redevelopment project will increase the station’s handling capacity to around 35,000 passengers at a time. The upgraded facility will include 17 lifts, 19 escalators, and 100 retiring rooms for passenger accommodation. Once completed, the modernised station is expected to significantly improve passenger comfort, streamline movement, and reduce congestion, positioning Ranchi Railway Station as a key transport hub for the region.
