The Rise of BRAHMA: A New Hub for High-Tech Indian Rail

On August 10, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for BEML’s Greenfield rail manufacturing facility, BRAHMA, in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, calling it “a pillar in India’s journey towards self-reliance.”

The Rs 1,800-crore facility, spread over 148 acres, will manufacture advanced rolling stock including Vande Bharat trainsets, metro cars, EMUs, and high-speed rail coaches. Initial production will range from 125–200 coaches annually, scaling up to 1,100 over five years. The project is expected to generate over 5,000 jobs and boost local MSME ecosystems across Singrauli, Satna, Rewa, and Katni.

Highlighting its significance, Singh noted BRAHMA’s contribution to strengthening India’s industrial and defence base. Citing Operation Sindoor, he underscored the crucial role of indigenous equipment. The facility will incorporate sustainable features such as zero liquid discharge, renewable energy integration, rainwater harvesting, and green landscaping, adhering to stringent environmental and safety standards.
