Thiruvananthapuram’s ₹8,000-Crore Metro Vision Nears Green Light

The proposed ₹8,000-crore Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail project is awaiting approval from the Kerala government, with a final decision expected within the next month. Although Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and revised Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) in August 2026, progress has been delayed due to ongoing interdepartmental reviews and clarifications involving the Metro Rail Division, Transport Department, and Local Self-Government Department. Once reviewed, the proposal will go to the Chief Minister for final approval. Designed to ease urban congestion, Phase 1 features a 31 km corridor stretching from Pappanamcode to Enchakkal with 27 stations connecting major residential, commercial, and tech hubs, including Technopark.
