Maharashtra's Housing Revolution: 35 Lakh Homes by 2030

The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the Housing Policy 2025, aiming to deliver 35 lakh affordable homes by 2030 with a projected investment of Rs 70,000 crore. Launched under the initiative "Majhe Ghar - Majhe Adhikar" (My Home - My Right), the policy focuses on supporting the economically weaker sections (EWS) and lower income groups (LIG) across the state.

A key highlight of the policy is the promotion of self-redevelopment for ageing buildings. To facilitate this, the state has allocated Rs 2,000 crore to establish a dedicated cell that will assist cooperative housing societies with planning, financing, developer selection, and execution of redevelopment projects.

The policy also introduces a rent-to-own housing model aimed at working women, students, and industrial workers. This model allows tenants to live in homes for up to 10 years with an option to purchase, offering a pathway to long-term housing security.

Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde stressed the importance of contributing to the Rs 20,000 crore viability gap fund proposed by NITI Aayog for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s G-Hub. This funding, through the Affordable Housing Fund, is intended to enhance investor confidence and promote inclusive urban growth.
