Vapi's Vision Takes Shape: Historic Approval for Town Planning Scheme

In a landmark move towards systematic urban development, Vapi City has received state government approval for its first-ever draft Town Planning (TP) Scheme earlier this week. This key development empowers the recently established Vapi Municipal Corporation (VMC) to initiate structured and sustainable urban planning across the city.

Since the formation of Vapi municipality in 1995, no TP scheme had been sanctioned—making this a historic first. The VMC, which officially began operations in January 2025, has now laid the foundation for organized city growth.

With the approval of TP Scheme No. 1, VMC has appointed a dedicated town planner to oversee its implementation. The approved plan covers approximately 126 hectares west of the Custom Frontier Road, stretching from the southern boundary of the GST Bhavan to Namdha village. In addition, three more TP schemes are under preparation for the Dungra area, indicating a broader push for planned development.

Municipal Commissioner Yogesh Chaudhary emphasized the transformative potential of the initiative. “The TP scheme will facilitate well-connected internal plots through properly planned road infrastructure,” he said. “It will eliminate the need for developers to acquire extra land to create road access and will address issues like irregularly shaped or fragmented plots due to scattered ownership.”

The implementation of the TP scheme will also support the systematic rollout of essential urban services such as water supply, drainage, and electricity. Planned roadways will be followed by the allocation of land for public infrastructure, including gardens, affordable housing, and facilities for economically weaker sections. The scheme also includes provisions for enhanced recreational spaces, healthcare centers, and libraries.

“This marks a new chapter in Vapi’s urban development. For the first time, we can shape the city’s growth in a structured and visionary way,” Chaudhary added.

Strategically located between Surat and Mumbai, Vapi is a major industrial hub known for its chemical and manufacturing sectors. The city’s advantageous location continues to attract robust investment from across Gujarat and Maharashtra, further underscoring the importance of this planning initiative.
