J&K's Infrastructure Crown Jewel: The Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is seeking proposals for the development of a new two-lane tube tunnel named the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel (Chenani Nashri Tunnel) in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) under NH(O).

The project involves the construction, operation, and maintenance of the two-lane new tube tunnel, as well as the operation and maintenance of the existing tunnel and sections of the Udhampur-Ramban (km 67.000 to km 89.000 & km 130.000 to 151.000) and Ramban-Marog (from km 151.00 to km 156.900) stretches of NH–44. This comprises a total length of 9.358 km, including 8.826 km for the tunnel and 0.532 km for approaches.

The contract, valued at Rs 2,515.72 crore, will be executed on a DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer) basis.

The deadline for bid submission is March 25, 2024.
